Romanian professor
Professor Lazăr M. Boleanţu was born in Timisoara on 04/24/1921. He graduated from Polytechnic School of Timisoara, Faculty of Electromechanics in 1946. Since 1948, at the Polytechnic Institute of Timisoara, he had covered all levels of academic education. In 1969, he argued his doctoral dissertation and became doctor of technical sciences. In 1970 he obtained the rank of professor, and in 1990 became professor consultant.
He was head of the Department of Strength of Materials (1967-1970 and 1984-1989), head of sector research at Timisoara subsidiary of the Romanian Academy (1963-1968) and also PhD’s scientific coordinator.
Among Lazăr Boleanţu’s achievements as research engineer must be primarily remembered the Cables and Conductors Testing Laboratory, with all machines and equipment available today in the Department of Strength of Materials. Many of these facilities are unique equipment.
One of the principles which have guided Professor Lazăr Boleanţu in his life was that the greatest satisfaction you get is by working; he got many satisfaction reasons from this point of view. Another principle which he applied with great consistency was essentially referring to the attitude towards those who sought counseling or technical expertise. Professor Lazăr Boleanţu dictum was that no one is denied when asks your help. Since hiring a new work, began sleepless night and struggle to find final solutions. For example, the same way was the genesis of MOT's, the horizontal machine for cable tensile with 12 m length of samples and the maximum force of 2500 kN. It is a unique facility, with which many important problems were solved and allowed products export of some Romanian companies.
Professor Lazăr Boleanţu was a visionary in the development of engineering profession, this was proven by the directions which guided his doctoral students and today recognized personalities in the top fields of scientific research. He was a severe "coach", which led to disciple’s performances.
Distinguished teacher has written several books, published over 160 scientific articles, authored 15 patents and innovation certificates.
For special work performed he was awarded Romanian Academy "Traian Vuia" prize (1970) and Ministry of Education Award (1964 and 1968).
Professor Lazăr Boleanţu was founding member of ARTENS (1978) and member of the international organization in cable research, OIPEEC.
Remember that in order to dedicate to his profession, the young engineer Boleanţu Lazăr gave up a great passion, music; symphonic music was a hobby all his life. Those who have followed or are following are grateful to professor and proud that they can continue and develop school tradition that eminent professor Lazăr Boleanţu has created.
