Romanian professor
Vasile Zamfir was born on 19.01.1937 in the village Doba, Olt County. He attended first school years in village Doba, middle school and high school in town Slatina. As a consequence of that time education law, he belongs to the first promotion of Baccalaureate graduates after 10 school years of "Radu Greceanu" High School in Slatina.
In 1954 he entered the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Institute of Mining in Bucharest, where he attends the first three years and then he was transferred to Coal Institute of Petroşani, which later became the Institute of Mining Petroşani.
As a graduate in 1959 he worked in UNIO Company of Satu Mare, here he works as an trainee engineer in the years 1959-1960. After this period, he passes in university education at the Department of Industrial Design and Machine Elements of the Mining Institute of Petroşani, now University of Petroşani.
Through hard work he climbs slowly academic positions scale: assistant 1961, lecturer in 1963, associate professor in 1977, professor in 1990, professor consultant 2005.
In 1969 he wins the competition for doctoral specialization in Theory of mechanisms and machines in the Center for Solid Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of Romania, with scientific leader prof. C. Radu Bogdan. He prepared the PhD thesis entitled "Contributions to the analysis and synthesis of mechanisms with bars and gear elements".
He is a member of the Romanian Association of Mechanisms and Machines Theory, ARoTMM, and its president in Petroşani, until his retirement in 2005.
In 1990 he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Electromechanical Machinery and Installations, re-elected in 1992, position fulfilled until 1996. In 1990 he received the right of conducting PhD theses in "Mechanisms" and "Mine Machinery".
He participated in many national and foreign scientific meetings, published over 250 articles in professional journals. He founded the Institute’s Mechanisms and Machine Elements Laboratory.
Through entire teaching, research and publication activity, through participation in scientific local, national and international meetings, Professor Vasile Zamfir demonstrated high professionalism and dedication and therefore he can be proud of the quality, given by department colleagues and others, of founder of the Petroşani’s mechanism school.
