Today, Oradea University is a complete institution of higher education that integrates 15 faculties.

In Enlightenment atmosphere of late eighteenth century was founded in Oradea in 1780, a “philosophical higher education institution", which was transformed, in 1788, in the Law Faculty, the oldest faculty not only across Romania today, but from a vast east of Europe region.
Beginning with 1921 all Law Faculty lectures were held in Romanian language. In 1923, the founding of two theological academies enriched the academic life in Oradea.
Law Academy of Oradea, together with the two theological academies had to make another step, by integrating a faculty of letters, to meet an old goal: foundation of university in Crisana County, in Oradea. But in 1934, under strange circumstances, the core of Oradea University is falling apart, and the Faculty of Law, after a century and a half of uninterrupted activity, is abolished and transferred to Cluj.
After nearly three decades, on October 1, 1963, by order of the Ministry of Education, was founded in Oradea a 3-year Pedagogic Institute, meant to complete the lack of teachers in education. New institution starts with two faculties: Literature and Mathematics-Physics, to which is added, next year, the Faculty of History-Geography and Physical Education. One by one, the new specializations acquire academic status until 1983; when, due to a flawed educational policy, the educational and humanistic specializations restrict their activities and from a thriving educational institution, merely remain an institute of engineers, affiliate to Polytechnic Institute of Cluj.
In May 1990, by decree of the Romanian government, was established Technical University, then called the University of Oradea, on strong foundation of prestigious academic traditions in Oradea. It was a cultural and scientific correction much desired in Romanian society, as a crowning victory in Oradea of Romanian people's revolution in 1989, one of the greatest achievements in Crisana County, after the Great Union of December 1, 1918. It was accomplished the dream of so many generations of intellectuals, expressed by an historian of Oradea cultural institution: "As for the future, the wish of all Romanians is that in Oradea should be establish a full university, whose lights cross entire western border of Romania".
Today, Oradea University is a complete institution of higher education that integrates 15 faculties.
All 15 faculties, with all 108 specialties for bachelor education are accredited or licensed. The master studies comprise 86 programs and doctoral school comprises 10 fields.
Educational activities in faculties are accompanied by scientific research. Along with professional performance and ethical behavior, scientific research is a priority criterion for assessing academic staff in higher education. Besides the university operates 29 research centers including 3 institutes accredited CNCSIS.
We must all admit that there is no financial or real estate investment more profitable than investment for students. Education itself will always be the best long term investment, because nothing is more valuable than knowledge obtained during university studies.
