DUSSAULX, Charles-Joseph (1835 - 1919)

French inventor.

Charles Dussaulx Charles was born in 1835 in Lorey, from a farmers family. Passionated of mechanics, curious and ingenious mind, at age of 17 he went to the capital where he lived forty-five years. Attending savants and inventors, at the age of 35 he made the most important of his discoveries : the combution engine with liquid petroleum. Dussaulx was a true pioneer in the car industry. When a manufacturer would to launch the first petroleum vehicles, Charles Dussaulx provides plans to apply to these new vehicles. Peugeot's vehicles were equipped with Daimler engines, from the invention of Charles Dussaulx until 1896. Charles Joseph Dussaulx came back in Lorey to spend the last years of his life in an old mill and died in 1919 at the age of 84 without being able to get the fruits of his invention.
