Structure of mechanism

Function This calculating machine is housed in a wooden case. It has a 9-figure input register, a 9-figure counter and a 16-figure totalizer. IT uses G.W. Leibniz’ (1646-1716) cylinder mechanism with unequal-length teeth, and the carriage shifts at each decimal place. The unit comprises a fixed part and a moving carriage. The fixed part contains the drive crank, the input cursors and the addition/subtraction lever. On the carriage there are the totalizer (top) and counter (smaller) windows, as well as the eraser buttons which are also used to advance the carriage.
