A thermoelectromotive force is developed in a circuit consisting of two
u nlik e metal conductors, 1 and 2, because temperatures t and t t at the
ends of conductors 1 and 2 are not equal. Current is set up by thermocouple
1-2 in movable coil 3, turning freely in the field of strong permanent
magnet 4. Attached rig id ly to coil 3 is hand a which indicates on scale
d the temperature of the not ju n c tio n of conductors I and 2. Hand a is
returned to its in itia l position by a spring (not shown).
