Blas Cabrera y Felipe was a physicist born in Spain in 1878. He contributed significantly to the study of magnetism in Spain. He was a member of the Scientific Committee of the 6th Solvay Conference with Einstein and Curie. He also was secretary of the International Committee for Weights and Measures.

Blas Cabrera y Felipe was born in Arrecife de Lanzarote (Spain) on May 20th in 1878. In 1894 he moved to Madrid and studied Physics and Mathematics at the Central University, nowadays the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He graduated in 1898 and received his PhD. in 1901. In 1903 he was a founder member of the Spanish Society for Physics and Chemistry. Since 1905 he taught electricity at the Central University (Madrid). In 1909 he was included into the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences. In 1928 he was included into the Paris Science Academy and named member of the 6th Solvay Scientific Conference. He participated in this conference in 1930 with Einstein, Curie and Niels Bohr. In 1933 he was a secretary member of the International Committee for Weights and Measures. As soon as the Spanish Civil War started, he exiled abroad. He died in Mexico D.F. on August 1st in 1945.
