Established by Charles Lallemand: The zero leveling, that Lallemand called "Normal Zero" was based on the observation of the Marseille's tidal from February 1st, 1885 to January 1st, 1897. These observations have identified a zero corresponding to the 0.329 m wide tidal for the Fort Saint-Jean scale. It is therefore 71 mm below the "Bourdaloue zero".
