Ricart Medina, Wifredo (1897 - 1974)

Industrial engineer, noted for being the creator of the Pegaso automobiles

Wifredo Ricart was a Spanish engineer who developed his career in the automotive industry in Spain and Italy. Since he was very young he worked as an engineer in the company Automotive Vallet and Fiol, where they made water pumps for engines and distributed cars of the Hispano-Suiza company. Later he was chief engineer for special projects of the company Alfa Romeo. At this time, he designed and developed many engines, from aviation to racing cars. During these years he built the Alfa Romeo Type 512. In 1945 he returned to Spain and formed the Center of Studies Automotive Technicians (CETA). Shortly after he founded ENASA a manufacturing company dedicated to industrial vehicles whose trademark was Pegaso. In 1951, he presented the Pegaso Z-102 at the Paris Motor Show, earning an honorable mention. In his last years, Wifredo Ricart worked as an independent consultant of free activities, always trying to improve his creations and adapting to the changes of different periods.

1922 Barcelona, Spain He designed a car with 4-cylinder, 16-valve 1.5 liter engine. It was very advanced for its time.
1926 Barcelona, Spain When Paco Pérez de Olager left the company, he founded his own company, S.A. Motores y Automóviles Ricart.
1936 - 1945 Italy He was Chief Engineer for special projects of the Alfa Romeo Company.
1945 Madrid, Spain Togheter with José Antonio Suanzes, he formed the Automotive Technical Studies Centre (CETA).
1946 Barcelona, Spain He founded ENASA company (Empresa Nacional de Autocamiones, SA), a company dedicated to the manufacture of industrial vehicles. The trademark of ENASA was Pegaso.
1951 Presentation of the Pegaso Z-102 in the Motor Show of Paris, with which he won the honorable mention.
1957 - 1959 He was President of the International Federation of Automotive Engineering Societies (FISITA).
1959 He finished his career working as Freelance Consultant
