Todhunter, Isaac (1820 - 1884)

Britischer Mathematiker und Mathematikhistoriker

"Todhunter schrieb zahlreiche Lehrbücher und Geschichten der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung, Variationsrechnung, Elastizitätstheorie und Potenzialtheorie. Er sprach neben Latein und Griechisch mehrere moderne Sprachen (Französisch, Deutsch, Spanisch, Italienisch, Russisch), Hebräisch und Sanskrit. Er verteidigte die Verwendung von Euklid als zentralen Unterrichtsstoff in Mathematik. Für seine Untersuchungen über Variationsrechnung erhielt er 1874 den Adams Prize."
