Commandino, Federico (1509 - 1575)

Medicine, Mathematician, Urbino, Translator, Ancient world, Archimedes, Euclid

Federico Commandino is one of the most renowned representative of Italian mathematical Renaissance. His most outstanding contribution to mathematics and science of the period is the translation and enrichment with erudite prefaces of the most important works of ancient mathematical authors in the greek history like Euclid, Archimedes, Apollonious. Without his excellent contributions, Keplero and Galileo themselves should have waited more to bring their discoveries to light. He also introduced in his studies the term “barycentre”.
