In 1950, John MacVeigh – a former engineer at Talgo – resigned and Angel Torán Tomás took his place in the research department. From then on, major breakthroughs were made at TALGO. In 1964 the TALGO III began to operate. This train solved the problems of reversibility (PUSH-PULL trains). In 1968 the TALGO III-RD – the first train with displacement wheels- started to transit between France and Spain. Finally in 1980, the TALGO PENDULAR increased the turn speed without increasing the force felt by the passengers. This is achieved by means of a natural pendulum system versus the servo-assisted used at that moment. Ángel Torán died in Biarritz, France on August 19th in 1999.
