Description
Portrait of Egnazio Danti, by Bartolomeo Passarotty of Bologna (1529-1592). Danti, portrayed in the Dominican habit, with one hand indicates a page of the "Almagest" of Ptolemy, while in the other hand holding a compass. In this way the portraitist recalls its two major responsibilities: the cartography and cosmography and descriptive geometry and instrumentation.
