Julio Cervera Baviera was a Spanish military officer and radio pioneer. He founded a long-distance learning school, one of the firsts of its kind. He worked with Marconi to develop wireless communications from which he obtained several patents.
Julio Cervera Baviera was born on January 26th in Segorbe, Spain. He started to study physics and natural sciences at the University of Valencia. He abandoned them to join into the army. In 1882 he graduated from Military Engineers Academy of Guadalajara. He participated in several geographical expeditions to Marruecos from which he published his observations. In 1899 he travels to England and worked with Marconi to solve the wireless communications problem. That same year, he obtained various patents. Julio Cervera worked in the development of radio systems but there is some controversy whether if he was Marconi, Tesla or Julio Cervera who really invented it. He later worked as a technical instructor at the Superior School of Arts and Industry of Madrid. He resigned after only 8 months and travels around Europe and USA where he got interested in long-distance education. In 1903 he established the International Institution of Electrotechnics in Valencia, Spain, one of the first schools of its kind worldwide. Julio Cervera Baviera died in 1929.
