Spanish aeronautical engineer born in in Vitoria. He was a spanish aviation pioneer who flew the first aircraft made in Spain.
Heraclio Alfaro Fournier was born in Vitoria on September 20th in 1893. He travel to France with seventeen years old to become an aviator. He returned to Vitoria in 1911 where he opened an aviation school. In 1913 he decided to design and build an aircraft which he flew in 1914. In this way, he became the first pilot to fly a Spanish aircraft. In 1917 he moved to Barcelona to build airplanes for the Spanish aviation. In 1920 he travelled to USA where he worked on several aeronautical projects in many companies such as Harold Pitcairn Co. and the MIT. In 1927 he built the aircraft City of Peoria with which he won the race San Francisco-Honolulú, He returned to Vitoria where he died in 1962.
