Levi-Civita, Tullio (1873 - 1941)

Tullio Levi Civita was an Italian mathematician, most famous for his work on absolute differential calculus (tensor calculus) and its applications to the theory of relativity, but who also made significant contributions in other areas.
Because his Jewish origin, he is deprived of his professorship and of his membership of all scientific societies until his death.

1892 He graduated from the University of Padua Faculty of Mathematics.
1898 He was appointed to the Padua Chair of Rational Mechanics
1900 he publishes with Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro “Méthodes de calcul différentiel absolu et leurs applications”
1918 He was appointed to the Chair of Higher Analysis at the University of Rome
1920 He was appointed to the Chair of Mechanics
1938 Fascist Government deprived him of his professorship
