The VDI guideline 2159 allows an assessment of the transmission noise of more than 200 kW power class and specifies five grades. Extensive testing with 36 gears, as they are now used in various vehicles, showed that it is useful to extend the boundaries between the grades of the VDI guideline to lower performance by straights down to, see figure.
