This shows the more modern form of direct drive by means of an
electric motor, and undoubtedly it is an ideal arrangement, and to-day probably
more pumps are so driven than by any other means. A bearing is advisable
between the pump and motor, but sometimes, if price is an object, or the power
to be transmitted is not very high this can be omitted.
