Description
Very few original drawings of Vlaicu resisted through time. Here is an original scheme drawn by the inventor himself. Vlaicu III is the last model designed by this pioneer of aviation. Unfortunately, he did not get to build entirely and then fly Vlaicu III, because his early and unexpected death. However, two of his collaborators finished the construction. The novelty of the model consisted of several features:
- the plane was almost entirely metal framed
- the model featured a unique aerodynamic shape to that time, substantially lowering the air resistance to progress
- for this type of aircraft, Vlaicu designed the cooling metal ring around the engine cylinders, later widely introduced abroad.
