The instrument is used to measure a sm all displacement of
tube 4, w ith its coils 1 wound on shell 3, w ith respect to member
5 w ith the core. Armature 2 is displaced w ith in two coils 1,
thereby changing their inductance. The inductance of coils 1
is used as a measure of the displacement of, for example, a
strain gauge.
