The dimensions of the links comply with the conditions: r₁=2r₄ and C͞E=E͞D=2r₁ where r₁ and r₄ are the pitch radii of gears 1 and 4. In the initial position (as shown), fines AC and BD are parallel to horizontal axis Ax and are directed: AC to the right and BD to the left. When gear 1 rotates, various points of connecting rods 2 and 3 describe the complex connecting-rod curves shown. The shapes of the curves can be changed by varying the distances A͞C and B͞D.
