Suanzes Fernández, Juan Antonio (1891 - 1977)

Juan Antonio Suanzes Fernández was a Naval Engineer born in La Coruña, Spain in 1891. He founded the Instituto Nacional de Industria (National Institute of Industry) in which he performed significant reforms to the Spanish industry.

Juan Antonio Suanzes Fernández was born in El Ferrol in La Coruña, Spain on May 20th in 1891. In 1903 he entered to the Naval School of El Ferrol. In 1915 he entered to the just-created Academy of Engineers and Machinists of the Spanish Army and graduated in 1917. That same year he was promoted as Captain of the Army Engineers Corps. In 1941 he founded the National Institute of Industry (INI). There he drove the creation of several important Spanish companies such as SEAT, ENDESA, ENASA and REPSOL. In 1963 he resigned abruptly to his position at the INI. He died on December 6th in 1977.
