The University of Cantabria is a public a university formed in 1972. It is considered one of the ten best Spanish Universities for his quality and scientific productivity.
The University of Cantabria was created on August 18th in 1972 under the name of University of Santander. In 1973 the faculty of medicine already was giving lessons. Also that same year the Sciences Faculty was founded while the schools of Industrial Engineering, Mines and Economics joined the University of Santander. In 1978 the Faculty of Philosophy was created. In 1985 the statutes of the University of Santander were published. Since then, the University of Santander has been expanding with the construction of many academic centers. In 2003 the new statutes of the University of Cantabria were published. Nowadays, the University has a wide academic offer and is considered as one of the ten best Spanish universities for his quality and scientific productivity.
