Echegaray y Eizaguirre, José (1832 - 1916)


 
Spanish civil engineer, mathematician, statesman, and dramatists.

José Echegaray was a multifaceted character of Spain in the late nineteenth century. civil engineer graduated from School of Madrid, mathematician, playwright, politician, with excellent results in all areas in which he was involved. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904 and developed several projects in the exercise of ministerial portfolios of Finance and Development. He made important contributions to mathematics and physics. Introduced in Spain the Chasles geometry, the Galois theory, the elliptic functions. He is considered the greatest spanish mathematician of the nineteenth century.
