In the figure three types of mechanisms are presented. At the top, an articulated quadrilateral mechanism (closed chain mechanism) which has one degree of freedom. At the middle, a closed chain mechanism with two degrees of freedom. At the bottom, an open chain mechanism with four degrees of freedom.
