The arrangement depends on whether the crane is designed as a so-called hub crane, or whether the support of the boom, etc. takes place only through the column. The turntable cranes (see figure) assume the breakdown torque of the boom
and the vertical loads to the pivot axis by a central rib and a corresponding number of support (running) rolls on, while the column is mainly used for the centering of the system.
