Westinghouse, George (1846 - 1914)

American inventor and businessman who founded the Westinghouse Company. He also invented the air brake for trains.

George Westinghouse was born on October 6th in 1846 in New York, USA. He registered his first patent in 1865, related to rotary steam engine. He made his fortune with the invention of air brakes for trains in 1868. In 1886 he founded the Westinghouse Company, and bought Tesla's patents. In 1893 he was given permission to build a power plant at Niagara´s Falls. After this project, AC was introduced as the way to transport electric power. In 1955 he was chosen to the Hall of Fame of the American Inventors. He died in New York on March 12nd in 1914.
