This photo shows a prototype named as Clatched arm that has been designed and built at LARM in Cassino. This robotic arm has a total of three active degrees of freedom. A single dc motor drives all the active degrees of freedom by means of three geartrains that can be connected or disconnected separately to the motor by means of three clutches.
