Progettista di macchine.
He was a philosopher, a mechanical engineer, a mathematician, an astronomer, a statesman, a musician and even a strategist.
Besides the mechanical dove, he invented the pulley, the screw, the rattle (toy) and perhaps even the kite.
As matematician, he conceived a solution of the doubling the cube problem (also named problem of Delos) and of the computing of the cube root.
As musician, he conceived a theory of the sound and he was the first who suggested an evaluation of it based on the frequence of the vibration.
As statesman and stategist he was elected many times governor and strategist of Tarentum and he was neves defeated in any battle.
Unfortunately just few fragments of his treatises reached the present time. Nevertheless his scientific production should have been very wide; in fact, to him are tributed the following treatises: De Mente et de principiis, De Mente et sensu, De Sapientia, De Decem categoriis, De Regno, De Regibus, De Generatione, De custodia, that are cited in classics written later.
