Niels Bohr was a Danish physicist born in 1885. He was awarded with the Nobel Prize for his insight on the internal structure of the atom. He contributed significantly to the development of the atomic technology.
Niels Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 7th in 1885. He studied physics at the University of Copenhagen and obtained his PhD. in 1911. In 1913 he proposed his famous model of the hydrogen atom. In 1916 he became a professor of physics of the University of Copenhagen. In 1921 he was named the first director of the current Niels Bohr Institute. In 1922 he was awarded with the Nobel Prize on Physics for his hydrogen atom model. Between 1943 and 1945 he worked in Los Alamos (USA) on the development of the atomic bomb. In his later years, he dedicated to the development of the atomic technology for peaceful applications. When the war ended, he returned to Copenhagen in front of the Institute for Theoretical Physics. He died on November 18th in 1962 in Copenhagen.
