Josef Ressel was an inventor by carrying out an intense activity for research and design in several fields of mechanics, especially naval mechanics. He was a personality of reference in his time in national frames but the value of his inventions was recognized only after several years. He patented the ship propeller, and also the pneumatic mail service and cylindrical bearings
