Maybach, August Wilhelm (1846 - 1929)

Willelm Maybach was a German engineer and entrepreneur. Maybach is remembered for giving a great impulse to the automotive industry along with colleague Gottlieb Daimler. Maybach focused mainly of engines and cars, but also built motorcycles and engines for airships.

1863 he meets Gottlieb Daimler
1869 - 1872 Daimler and Maybach worked in a a railway factory
1885 Daimler and Maybach created the first motorcycle
1886 Daimler and Maybach built their first car, the Daimler Motorkutsche
1890 Daimler and Maybach formed the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft” DMG
1900 He designed and built the “Mercedes 35PS”
1907 He left DMG, replaced by Daimler’ son Paul
1909 Maybach and his son Carl organized a company to build aircraft engines “Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH”
1916 He retires from public life
† 29.12.1929 Stuttgart died
1996 He is accepted in the “Automotive Hall of Fame”
