The interactive animation shows a WebGL model of a door lock, which was applied for a patent by the looksmith Gaul from Erkelenz in 1844.

Das Video zeigt die Überblendung einer Abbildung aus der Patentzeichnung Gauls durch eine interaktive Animation des patentierten Türschlosses. Der Patentantrag stammt aus dem Jahr 1844. Das Original befindet sich im Geheimen Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
Difference Regulator with Bevel Gear according to Siemens (1845)
The interactive animation shows a WebGL model of a regulator for steam engines, developed and applied for a patent by the Siemens brothers, which is absolutely different from preliminary centrifugal regulators.
This regulator is based on the difference of the velocity of a circular pendulum and of the velocity of the steam engine, which has to be controlled.
The control mechanism was implemented in remarkably different ways.
Here is shown the solution by use of three interlocking bevel gears.

Das Bild zeigt ein WebGL-Modell eines von den Gebrüdern Siemens 1845 entwickelten Reglers für Dampfmaschinen, das sich von den herkömmlichen Fliehkraftreglern grundsätzlich unterscheidet und zum Patent angemeldet wurde. Ausgenutzt wird dabei die Differenz zwischen der Geschwindigkeit eines Kreispendels und der Geschwindigkeit der zu regelnden Dampfmaschine. Der Regelmechanismus wurde dabei auf unterschiedliche Art realisiert. Dargestellt ist hier die Lösung durch die Kombination von Schraube und Mutter, wobei die Schraube durch zwei Reibräder und die Mutter durch eine doppelt schraubenförmig gewundene Bahn realisiert wurde.
