Mach, Ernst (1838 - 1916)


 
Ernst Mach was a Austrian physicists.

Ernst Mach was an Austrian philosoph and a great physicist. Named after him is the Mach- number, that describes the velocity in dependency of sound speed, the Mach- wave, which Mach could notice in front of and behind flying projectiles and the Mach- cone.
Besides he could prove the existence of the Doppler- effect in an experiment.
With his calculations and experiments he laid the foundations for Gasdynamics.
Some people call him the precursor for the theory of relativity.
