Was an important entrepreneur and industrial figure in Biscay, Spain. He continued with the mining businesses of his father and expanded to the naval industry.
Horacio Echevarrieta Maruri was born in Bilbao on September 15th in 1870. After his father’s death, he continued with the family mining businesses. He participated in the Eibar Federal Agreement in 1869 representing Biscay. He had maritime businesses with a international transport fleet. He exploited the “Parcocha” mine located in Trápaga-Trapagarán, Biscay, Spain. He developed the Cadiz economy with the construction of shipyards in which the school-ship Juan Sebastian Elcano was built. He was founder of several companies such as Iberduero (nowadays Iberdrola) and Iberia. He died in Burceña-Barakaldo on May 20th in 1963.
