Atwood, George (1745 - 1807)

English mathematician and physicist

Atwood was concerned with the solution of physical problems by using mathematical techniques. He expanded the theories of Euler and Bouguer about the stability of ships, he researched in the field of torsional vibrations and invented a machine named after him for the demonstration and measurement of uniformly accelerated motions. He also wrote on the construction of arches and bridges.
