Romanian professor
Born in Bucharest in a modest family, he was graduate at high school “C. Negruzzi”, in Iassy, in 1911 and at the National School of Bridges and Highways of Bucharest in 1916. As student he had attended some courses of very famous professors, like: Anghel Saligny, Elie Radu, David Emmanuel, N. Vasilescu – Karpen and others.
In 1920 was set up the Polytechnic School of Timisoara and C.C. Teodorescu was invited to be vice rector and professor of strength of materials and applied mechanics. At that time rector was a famous mathematician Traian Lalescu.
C.C. Teodorescu has worked in Timisoara 19 years (until 1939) at Polytechnica and also as head master of the Post and Telecommunication School (1923 – 1929). He has set up the first laboratory for testing materials in Timisoara, and becomes rector of Timisoara Polytechnica between 1934 and 1938.
He was appointed as rector of Bucharest’s Polytechnica in the period 1940 – 1944, and professor of strength of materials until 1948, when he was transferred at Railroads Institute in Bucharest.
He was retired in 1960 and was a warded as emeritus professor.
His educational and scientific activity was a exceptionally one.
He was the first who has applied the statistical method in materials testing.
C. C. Teodorescu has published in 1923 the first course of strength of materials in Romania at Timisoara, which was reedited in 1926.
In a book published in Academy’s Publishing House he has presented an original theory regarding the continuous welding railroads.
At Bucharest professor C. C. Teodorescu has set up the seminar of applied mechanics with a large audience for Ph. D. students as well as for faculty members.
In the source book of mechanical engineering, first edition, in 1955, in Romanian, C. C. Teodorescu has elaborated the chapter “Strength of Materials”. Also he has published more than 150 papers as well as many books.
As a homage Romanian Society of Strength of Materials has given his name to the annually Professional Competition on Strength of Materials.
