Xu, Guangqi (Paulus) (1562 - 1633)

He was one of the most important Chinese to convert to Christianity. Statesman, scholar and scientist in the Ming Dinasty. He is known for the translation of Euclid's Elements (with Matteo Ricci) and “Le diverse et artificiose machine” by Agostino Ramelli (with Sabatino de Ursis).

1603 Is baptized as a Roman Catholic under the name "Paul Xu Guangqi"
1604 - 1607 He worked with Matteo Ricci translating several scientific texts.
1611 He published Euclid's Elements translated in chines with Matteo Ricci
1612 he translated a work of Ramelli on hydraulic mechanisms under the name "Tàixī shuǐfǎ, Hydraulic machinery of the West" with Sabatino de Ursis
1630 He became Minister under the Ming dynasty
