1906 Assistant at the Institute for Applied Electricity of Hermann Theodor Simon and doctorate to Doctor of Philosophy
1907 - 1911 Berlin Engineer at Siemens & Halske in Berlin
1910 Berlin Habilitation at the TH Berlin
1911 Dresden Appointment to the TH Dresden as professor and director of the institute for light-current engineering
1915 - 1918 Kiel Work in the laboratory of "inspection of torpedo and mine engineering" in Kiel
1917 Discovery of the "Barkhausen effect" and the "Barkhausen-Kurz oscillations"
1918 Dresden Return to the TH Dresden, Appointment as full professor
1923 First volume of "electron tubes", followed by three more volumes
1926 Introduction of the "Phon" as measure of loudness
1946 - 1953 Dresden Again appointment as full professor and director of the institute for light-current engineering at the TH Dresden
