Herrera Linares, Emilio (1879 - 1967)

Emilio Herrera Linares was a militar and an engineer born in Spain. He was a militar engineer with scientific call attracted to the aviation field,. He investigated in a properly-suited uniform for Air Balloon and Airships explorations from which, later on, the NASA based their designs for the space uniforms. He died in 1967 in Geneva.

Emilio Herrera Linares was a militar and an engineer borned on february 13th in 1879. With 17 years old entered the Engineers Academy of Gualadajara – Academia de Ingenieros de Guadalajara- after abandoning the arquitecture career. He was a militar engineer with scientific call attracted to the aviation field, in which he made several milestones for the spanish aviation, such as the creation of the Four Winds Aerodiynamic Laboratory – Laboratorio Aerodinámico de Cuatro Vientos-. In this place, he investigates in a properly suited uniform for Air Balloon and Airships explorations fron which, later on, the NASA based their designs for the space suits. He died in 1967 in Geneva and his remains rest in Granada.

1932 Spain He patented a sliding rule for aerodynamic problems and enters the “Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales”.
1935 Spain He made designs for high altitude balloons and space suit prototype
1937 Spain His second son died in the Spanish Civil war with 19 years old.
1939 Chile He emigrates to Chile escaping the civil war and later he lived in exile in France
1945 He published an article about the atomic bomb, but it was rejected.
1960 - 1962 Was the president of the Spanish Republican Government in exile.
† 1967 Geneva, Switzerland He died in Geneva with 88 years old.
