Maritime engineer born in Irún in 1900. In the 1940`s, he developed several theoretical tools that permitted to know the waves over a port construction, a milestone at the time.
Ramón Iribarren Cavanilles was born on April 4th in 1900 in Irún, Spain. Since very young he showed a talent for mathematics. In 1921 he entered into the Escuela Especial de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos and graduates in 1927. In 1929 he went to the Basque Country and started to work for the Port Group of Gipuzcoa. In the following years he started to work on a theoretical tool to know the knowledge of the waves over a construction. In 1932 he published an article entitled “Proyecto de rampa de rompeolas del Puerto de Motrico”, and in 1941 he published in the Revista de Obras Públicas the article “Obras de abrigo en los puertos” explaining his method. The last was recognized internationally for its originality. That same year his method was published in The Dock & Harbour Authority magazine. He also explained his method in several universities such as Berkeley and MIT. He continued working on his methods and also dedicated himself to teaching until he died on February 21st in 1967.
