Eric Roberts Laithwaite was an electrical engineer born in Lancashire, UK. He made major contributions on the development of lineal induction motors.
Eric Roberts Laithwaite was born in Atherton, Lancashire (UK) on June 14th in 1921. He joined the RAF in 1941 and worked on the development of automatic pilot systems. In 1946-1949 he studied Electrical Engineering at the Universty of Manchester. One year later he obtained his Master’s degree. In 1964 he became professor at the Imperial college of London, where he worked on the development of Linear induction motors with many successful tests and applications. He died on November 27th in 1997.
