Alberto Palacio was an architect and engineer born in Bizcay in 1856. He made important architecture and engineering works like the “Puente Colgante de Portugalete” Transporter Bridge of Portugalete among others.
Alberto Palacio y Elissague was born in Sara in Bizcay, Spain on January 24th in 1856. He graduated in architecture at the Barcelona School in 1882. That same year he traveled to France to learn the advances in construction. In 1883 he returned to Madrid and Married Leonor Arana. He also worked on the construction of the Velázquez Palace in 1883. Between 1884 to 1891 he participated in the construction of the Bank of Spain headquarters. In 1887 he worked in the Crystal Palace at the Parque del Retiro. Between 1882 to 1892 he designed and built the Atocha Train Station in Madrid. Between 1890 to 1893 he worked on his major work , the Puente Colgante de Portugalete (Transporter Bridge of Portugalete), an UNESCO World Heritage work. He died on May 11th in 1939.
