Biot, Jean Baptiste (1774 - 1862)

Jean Baptiste Biot was a French physicist and engineer born in 1774. He made important contributions in the study of the polarized light and the study of magnetism.

Jean Baptiste Biot was born in Paris, France on April 21st in 1774. He graduated from the École Polytechnique of France. In 1797 he was a professor of mathematics at the University of Beauvais and in 1800 he was a professor of physics and mathematics at the Collège de France. In 1820 Félix Savart and Jean Baptiste Biot proposed the Biot-Savart Law of modern electrodynamics. He died on February 3rd in 1862 in Paris, France.
