After the II world War he was able to reconstruct the fleet that suffered many losses due to war events and put to use several ships the most famous of which were the Surriento, Napoli, Ravello, Sidney and Roma. At the early ‘50 of the twentieth century, with 40 ships for 650000 tons the fleet becomes the largest private fleet of Europe. During the following years the fleet had up to more than 50 ships. In the same years Lauro was elected Mayor of Naples and was also president of the Napoli Futball Club.
During the ’60 put to use two great ocean liners on the route to Australia: the Achille Lauro ad the Angelina Lauro. Both the ships, unfortunately, were reputed to be unluky ships since both had several accidents. In particular, the Achille Lauro, in 1985 was even hijacked by a Palestinian commando. Both the ships were lost because of a blaze.
In 1982 the company went to bankrupt and was winded up.
