DARRIEUS, Georges (1888 - 1979)

French aeronautical engineer. He is perhaps most famous for his invention of the Darrieus rotor, a wind turbine capable of operating from any direction and under adverse weather conditions, and the vertical-axis giromill.

1910 Diplômé de l'école Centrale.
1912 Toulouse Développement de la Compagnie electromécanique.
1912 Toulouse Licence de physique à l'Institut Electrotechnique.
1912 - 1978 Auteur de plus de 50 brevets et 700 applications ou notes internes au Groupe Brown Boveri.
1914 Lieutenant d'Artillerie.
1931 Dépose le brevet de son éolienne à axe vertical, robuste et indépendante de la direction du vent.
1960 Membre de l'Académie des sciences.
