Inventor, engineer and famous French watchmaker.

Antoine Redier started as an apprentice at a little-known watchmaker, Abraham-Louis Perrelet. In 1839, Antoine Redier left Perrelet for his military service in La Fere, 3rd Artillery Regiment, second battery. Soon released from his military service, he worked 3 years at Henri Robert where the opportunity arises to repair clocks at Couvent des Oiseaux. He met the painter Lafon who made him few portraits. Assisted by the convent, he bought the Mr Duchemin's watchmaking workshop, Place du Châtelet in 1842. He is the inventor of the alarm clock, the "clocks huitaines" which made the prosperity of the village of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont (Seine-Maritime), causing the creation of a new industry, in association with his son, in the village of St Nicolas of Aliermont en Seine. It is hundreds of thousands that these objects are fabricated. Antoine Redier set himself recording devices, in which he applied the combination of mechanics known as differential train. At the end of his career, he obtained 27 patents of invention or improvement. He was a member of Directors of the Company for the Encouragement of National Industry, founded in 1801.
