Armstrong, William George (1810 - 1900)

William George Armstrong was an extraordinary engineer and famous British industrialist . He was an effective industrialist who founded the Armstrong Whitworth manufacturing empire. He was a personality of reference in his time because of a recognized reputation of his works that still today are considered of fundamental importance.

* 1810 Newcastle upon Tyne born
1835 He became a partner in Donkin’s business, after spending many years in London to complete his apprenticeship in legal studies, so to agree to his father’s wishes, despite his interests in studying engineering
1846 He designed some engines, and as an amateur scientist he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society
1847 He resigned from his legal practice and began to build his factory of hydraulic equipment, Armstrong and Co.
1855 Inverness Bridge was completed by Armstrong and Co.
1864 Armstrong and Co. And Elswick Company merged to form a big companion to build guns
† 1900 Rothbury died
