Clebsch, Alfred (1833 - 1872)

Mathematiker

Clebsch made substantial contribution in the theory of invariants and algebraic geometry. In cooperation with Paul Gordan he introduced the Clebsch-Gordan-coeffizient that is used in relation with quantum mechanical angular momentum. Besides he established the highly regarded magazine 'Mathematische Annalen'. At the age of 39 he died early of a diphterie.
