Spanish bussines man, famous for be pioneering in the manufacture of vehicles in Spain.

Eduardo Barreiros was a Spanish mechanic and businessman who contributed significantly to the improvement of diesel engines and the design of elements of heavy machinery.

He started making adjustments to the bus line owned by his father. Later, he founded BECOSA ("Barreiros Construction Company, Inc."), a public works company for which manufactured machinery that allowed to finish the work in short times. In his workshop of Ourense, he began the transformation of gasoline to diesel engines to cover the needs of its own vehicles used in the works, adapting aircraft engines as German Krupp or Russian 3HC. Later, in 1954, he founded "Barreiros Diesel SA", which had an average output of three units of EB-6 engine per day. In 1957, with an all-terrain truck prototype known as El Abuelo (the Grandfather) with Barreiros EB-6 engine, he won a contest in Portugal for the delivery of 300 trucks to the Portuguese army. In 1964, he teamed up with Chrysler Corporation and founded Barreiros Chrysler, but eventually he lost control of the society in favour of Chrysler. His latest venture was to win a tender in Cuba to manufacture engines and to lead there an automotive development plan, with the creation of main and auxiliary automotive industries. In 1991, he received the title of Honorary Doctor of Technical Sciences from the University of Havana.
Today, the Barreiros Foundation honors him and promotes the knowledge and spreading of the history of industrial design, as well as research in the field of automotive technology and engines for all types of vehicles.
